Third-grade teacher Jacqueline Simms of Anne Beers Elementary School in Washington, D.C. was stunned to learn that she was selected as the sole D.C. recipient of the prestigious Milken Educator Award. Milken Family Foundation Co-Founder Mike Milken presented the honor – which comes with a $25,000 cash prize – during a schoolwide assembly. Also in attendance were State Superintendent of Instruction Hosanna Mahaley Jones and D.C. Public Schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson.
