A Day to Remember for SD Teacher Albert Her Many Horses

MISSION, SD—At Todd County Middle School, Albert Her Many Horses' classroom is a supportive place where students build confidence, cultivate pride in their heritage and explore their musical interests. He believes in providing students the chance to "do something that they don't see in their community every day." On Dec. 20, 2023, in front of an all-school assembly, the music and Lakota language teacher received a once-in-a-lifetime surprise when he was presented with a Milken Educator Award and $25,000 for excellence in teaching. South Dakota Secretary of Education Dr. Joseph Graves, U.S. Senator Mike Rounds and leaders of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, including President Scott Herman, were in attendance to celebrate his impact on the community.
