A $25,000 Gift for a Gifted Teacher: Tammera Mittelstet Is Oklahoma’s 2012 Milken Educator

Tammera Mittelstet has a “gift” for preparing students for success in academics and in life. It is a good thing that she can spread the wealth by splitting her time between Highland Park and Will Rogers elementary schools in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Today, Tammera was surprised by a gift of a different kind: a $25,000 Milken Educator Award to be used any way she chooses. During an all-school assembly at Highland Park, Tammera was heralded by pre-K-5 students, her fellow faculty and special guests including Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Janet Barresi and Milken Family Foundation Trustee Tom Boysen. Tammera is known for breathing new life into the gifted program and integrating real-world experiences into her lessons.
