There's a star-studded assembly today at Lucille M. Brown Middle School: Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Steven R. Staples and Virginia Secretary of Education Dr. Dietra Trent are here to celebrate the school's accomplishments in STEM education. But wait—why is Staples introducing Lowell Milken, chairman and co-founder of the Milken Family Foundation? Our cameras are rolling as Milken presents social studies teacher Ryan James with the surprise of a lifetime: Virginia's 2017-18 Milken Educator Award and $25,000.
