Milken Educator Shalini Sharma of Phoenix, AZ, Thanks Students

Shalini Sharma, a fifth-grade teacher at Friendly House Academia del Pueblo Charter Elementary School in Phoenix, Arizona, is moved to tears when Milken Family Foundation Chairman and Co-Founder Lowell Milken presents her with the prestigious Milken Educator Award at an all-school assembly. In true fashion, Shalini shares the honor with her students, whose “hard work” makes her job worthwhile. “You are capable of each and everything,” she tells them in an emotional speech. “You’re capable of doing way more than what you think.” Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas, Friendly House officials and community members joined in the special celebration.
