It's a big day at John P. Freeman Optional School: Students and staff have earned Reward School status, a Tennessee distinction for student growth. Tennessee Education Commissioner Dr. Candice McQueen is visiting to help them celebrate. But there's more to her visit, which becomes clear when Lowell Milken, chairman and co-founder of the Milken Family Foundation, surprises fourth-grade math teacher Erica Stephens with a 2018-19 Milken Educator Award and $25,000.
