Surprise, Elaine Hill! You're a CT Milken Educator

Students and staff at Waterbury's Wallace Middle School raised the roof for Academic Academy fourth grade teacher Elaine Hill when we named her Connecticut's 2022-23 Milken Educator Award recipient. Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz and Commissioner of Education Charlene Russell-Tucker joined us for Elaine's career-changing surprise. "It's important to recognize teachers because we're doing work that helps the whole community," Elaine told us.

A moving moment after the assembly: Elaine called her mother, also a teacher, who proudly shared the news with her own sixth grade class. "Boys and girls, my daughter just won a teaching award for the entire country!"
