Kimberly Alexander Carlo Makes History in NY
Science teacher Kimberly Alexander Carlo's students and colleagues were overjoyed when we surprised her with New York's 2023 Milken Educator Award at Lewiston-Porter Middle School. New York State Education Commissioner Dr. Betty A. Rosa joined us to celebrate Kimberly, the first ever recipient of a $25,000 Milken Award in Lewiston-Porter Central School District. The recognition represents a full-circle moment for the teacher, who graduated from the same district where she now teaches. "I became a teacher because I wanted to be a mentor," Kimberly told us after the assembly. "I went to Lew-Port and I had these really awesome teachers who mentored me. I wanted to help other kids figure out what they want to do."
