It's an exciting day at Van Derveer Elementary School: Students and staff are wearing the school colors, the chorus sings, and everyone is excited to meet Kimberley Harrington, acting commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Education, and Somerville Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Timothy J. Purnell. But why are they here? The mystery is revealed when Harrington introduces Dr. Jane Foley, senior vice president of the Milken Educator Awards, who surprises second-grade teacher Lindsay Frevert with the district's first Milken Educator Award and $25,000.
