Dr. Shasta Looper currently serves as the principal of Summit Academy - South Carolina, a digital hybrid middle school. Students attend class virtually, but engage in monthly face-to-face events that allow staff, parents, and students to build relationships through field trips, leadership experiences, and academic support. Shasta Looper continues to create exciting experiences for her students, just as she did in the classroom. While a classroom teacher, she was known for turning classrooms into diners and coffee shops, hosting disco days, and using competitive games to teach rigorous content to engage students in English Language Arts. Lessons were full of discussions and debates as Looper facilitated students to actively participate and question texts and the world around them. As an avid reader, she makes it her goal to instill a love of reading and writing in her students before the end of each year.
A dedicated advocate of tailoring data-driven instruction to individual students, Looper translates facts and figures into age-appropriate and specially engineered lesson plans. Kids bloom with Looper at the helm: 85 to 90 percent achieve more than one year's growth under her tutelage.
National Board Certified, Looper is adept at sharing strategies and tools to meet the needs of all students. Looper models differentiated instruction for teachers in the district and throughout South Carolina and runs workshops for the district and for universities.
