Tasha Wilson Wins AR Milken Award

 

Second-grade teacher Tasha Wilson catches her breath during a quiet moment after her surprise Milken Educator Award notification. Wilson motivates her pupils to perform at their peak academically, and they feel safe enough to take intellectual risks they might avoid in other classrooms. Teaching writing is one of Wilson’s many strengths: Second graders leave her class able to write five-paragraph essays, a writing skill they will use and build on throughout their academic careers. Her students demonstrate tremendous growth: Last year her students showed growth of 34% in math and 37% in reading on Renaissance Star 360 assessments.
