STEM Teacher Lukas Hefty Wins FL Milken Award
Lukas Hefty (FL '16) | Douglas L. Jamerson, Jr. Elementary School | St. Petersburg, FL | Jan 12, 2017Science plays a starring role at Douglas L. Jamerson, Jr. Elementary School, a STEM-focused magnet school in St. Petersburg, Florida. Dr. Brian Dassler, Florida Department of Education deputy chancellor of educator quality, is visiting to commend Jamerson on its STEM conference for students, along with Pinellas County Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael A. Grego. But there's another reason for their visit, which comes to light when Dr. Jane Foley, senior vice president of the Milken Educator Awards, surprises Lukas Hefty, the school's math and science magnet coordinator, with Florida’s 2016-17 Award and a check for $25,000!
