Biotech teacher Nicki Derryberry basks in the spotlight as she talks with reporters after her surprise Milken Educator Award ceremony. Derryberry's exemplary instruction has led to significant improvements in the school’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) assessment scores and end-of-year student surveys. After Derryberry's first year at Mesa, all of her students passed the Career and Technical Bioscience state exam, scoring higher than any other school in the district and 15% higher than the previous year. Additionally, more than 95% of Derryberry's students passed the AIMS science assessment, with 62% scoring higher than the standard.
