Horizon Elementary School has rolled out the red carpet for Alabama Superintendent of Education Michael Sentance, who is visiting to commend students on their achievement. But there's another reason for Sentance's visit, which comes to light when he introduces Dr. Jane Foley, senior vice president of the Milken Educator Awards. When Foley surprises sixth-grade science teacher Amara Alexander with Alabama's 2016-17 Milken Educator Award in front of the cheering crowd, the morning assembly morphs from routine to unforgettable.
