All in the family: Dr. Tammy Alexander (left), Alabama's 1998 Milken Educator Award recipient, shares a proud moment with her daughter Amara Alexander, a sixth-grade science teacher and the recipient of the state's 2016-17 Award. Dr. Alexander often celebrates Earth Day in her daughter's classroom, where students learn about science through dancing, singing, writing songs, researching, designing, building, and teaching their peers.
