Dr. Jane Foley, senior vice president of the Milken Educator Awards, debriefs with sixth-grade teacher Amara Alexander after her surprise Award notification. Alexander, whose students post some of the district’s highest scores on assessments, keeps students engaged in the learning process and promotes important skills like critical thinking and problem-solving. She often lets students do the teaching while she facilitates the discussion.
