Dr. Lucia Rivera-Aragon (CO '89) passed away on March 7, 2017. She began her career in Head Start and the Teacher Corps Program, then went on to be an elementary teacher and principal. She received the Milken Award in 1989, the first year the Award was given in Colorado, as the principal of Bradford Elementary School in Pueblo. Lucia was raised on the east side of Pueblo, which is known for ongoing struggles with crime, drugs, and gangs, and devoted most of her professional career to that community and its young people.

    I am very moved to find this reference to my mom. My mom was an amazing person whose life could be described as "the exception, not the rule." So many obstacles overcome. Thank you for remembering her here, Sincerely, Stephanie Cork
