David Borth (MI ’94), the inspirational leader of the Milken Educator Awards’ long-standing Michigan network, passed away July 7, 2012. As principal of Eastwood Elementary School for 17 years – and where he worked when he received his Award -- Borth implemented comprehensive reform and systemic change in his school and community. His project and 32-page report, The Future Belongs to the Village (published by the Kellogg Foundation), became the foundation for regional changes in many schools.
