Award Notification: Lindsey Bibler (SC '15)
South Florence High School
Surprise, Lindsey Bibler — You're a South Carolina Milken Educator!
Listen to what students say about Lindsey Bibler, math department chair at South Florence High School, and it's clear that Bibler has earned both their respect and their admiration. "I've always loved math, but I've never had a straight 100 in a math class before until I got to Ms. Bibler's class," says one. "There's no one else in the school who's as good as Ms. Bibler," adds another.
Bibler, who teaches AP Calculus, Pre-Calculus and Differential Calculus and won a South Carolina Milken Educator Award for 2015-16, gets great results from her students. In 2014, 100% of the students who took the AP Calculus AB exam passed. The school hadn't offered Calculus BC for a decade; Bibler not only generated enough interest to bring the class back, but also led her students to a 79% pass rate in the class's first year.
Bibler says students have asked her why she chose education instead of engineering or another STEM career. "I just love the relationship with the students," she says. "No amount of money would make me [do something] where I don't interact with students, help them learn, and see that spark."
