This Milken Educator Award season, Alabama added one incredible educator to the family: Gilliard Elementary School fifth grade teacher and mascot “Gilly gator” Mary Travis on January 20, 2025! We surprised the outstanding educator with Alabama’s sole Milken Educator Award and a $25,000 cash prize in front of students, colleagues, veteran Milken Educators, and visiting dignitaries.
