The Surprise of a Lifetime in Arkansas

Third grade teacher Emily Howard made history when she received the first $25,000 Milken Educator Award ever presented in Drew Central Schools. Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Department of Education Secretary Jacob Oliva joined Dr. Joshua Barnett, CEO of the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching, who represented the Milken Family Foundation at Emily's surprise notification. "Teaching you is my very favorite thing," Emily told students at the assembly. "It is an honor to represent Drew Central, because I do believe this is the best school!"
