One “Happy” Day for NC Milken Educator Angie Sigmon

Angie Sigmon, a Shuford Elementary School teacher in Conover, North Carolina, is caught completely off-guard when the Milken Family Foundation names her as the state’s sole Milken Educator Award recipient for the 2014–15 school year.  The honor comes with a $25,000 cash prize that Angie can use however she chooses. North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. June Atkinson joins Milken Educator Awards’ Dr. Jane Foley in the all-school assembly to bring Angie the good news, and the event is topped with a special high school performance of Pharrell Williams’ “Happy.” Get on your feet for Angie Sigmon!

  • Welcome to the family! I apologize for not being able to attend the ceremony; however, I wanted to express my congratulations to you. Receiving this award signifies the dedication, commitment, and heartbeat that you so willingly demonstrate to this profession and your students each and every day. You are among the most amazing family of educators that I have ever known. We are glad you are a part!
