California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson praises the school's Career and Technical Education program, which prepares students for the years after high school and is supported by Butte Community College. CORE Butte High School offers a hybrid "college" model for grades 9-12, combining independent home study with on-site instruction. Torlakson notes with pleasure that "the students who are involved in career paths are graduating [at a higher rate] because they have a purpose....We are leading young people to jobs for which there is demand." Career pathways in the program include interpreting for the deaf, medical sciences, agriculture and software development.
