Lowell Milken addresses CORE Butte

Lowell Milken, chairman and co-founder of the Milken Family Foundation, tells the assembly at CORE Butte why he created the Milken Educator Awards. "Research has absolutely proven that the single most important school-related factor in determining students’ achievement is the quality of the teachers in the classroom," he says. Music, sports, acting — those professions all give out awards for excellence, he says, "but the one profession that prepares all these other professions is seldom part of that celebration." One of the primary goals of the Milken Educator Awards is to inspire kids to consider careers in education: "With all of the challenges and opportunities in our nation, it’s absolutely critical that talented young people go into the teaching profession," Milken says.
