Katie Negen Wins TX Milken Award in Slaton

 

 

TAP Master Teacher Katie Negen addresses the students, staff and guests at the assembly at Slaton Junior High. Negen has spent her entire career in the district. "I am so blessed by all of you students and teachers," she says. Later, she tells a guest: "We're a family here in Slaton ISD. I've had opportunities to go other places, but Slaton feels like home."

Negen works hand-in-hand with fellow master and mentor teachers and administrators to move the whole school forward. Her role is made possible through the implementation of the TAP System for Teacher and Student Advancement, an initiative of the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) that provides opportunities for teacher leadership, job-embedded professional learning, educator evaluation and performance-based compensation.
