After his surprise Milken Educator Award notification, biology teacher Michael Sana walks back to his classroom through a tunnel of students holding their hands out for congratulatory "high fives." Sana, who has grown the AP Biology program at Waipahu High from 12 students to 40, leads his students in scientific research that has yielded 120 publications with the National Institutes of Health. Students have had the opportunity to work at places like the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Rutgers University.
