Colin DeGroot Wins New Mexico's Milken Educator Award

Colin DeGroot (NM '15)   |   The ASK Academy  |  Rio Rancho, NM  |  Feb 24, 2016

It's an exciting morning at The ASK Academy: New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez and Secretary of Education Hanna Skandera are visiting the school's brand-new facility to talk with students about the upcoming PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) assessment. But there's another reason for the dignitaries' visit, which comes to light when they introduce Dr. Jane Foley, senior vice president of the Milken Educator Awards. When Foley surprises science teacher Colin DeGroot with New Mexico's 2015-16 Milken Educator Award, a special day turns into one DeGroot, his students, and his colleagues will remember forever. Relive the day's events in the photos below.

  • WOW!! What a pleasant surprise. We are so proud and happy for our amazing Mr. DeGroot. A very deserving recognition and award. This is a great time for the Ask Academy, their founders, scholars, scholars families and staff. The timing was perfect for the Ask family has just moved into the new building and campus...a must see for all! As a grandparent raising a wonderful grandson who attends this phenomenal school, my hope and prayer for him is he will leave with a lifetime of possibilities because of the devoted managers, staff and STEM courses they provide. We are honored to be a part of the ASK family and education process. Congratulations Mr. DeGroot, you ROCK!!.
