Math teacher Carla Diede addresses the assembly gathered in her honor for her surprise Milken Educator Award notification. "Don't let your passion for learning die," she tells students. "Follow your dreams and don't let anyone tell you otherwise."

A leader in the personalized learning program at Harrisburg South Middle School, Diede spends her mornings as a personalized learning coach working with sixth- and seventh-grade students and their teachers in creating customized, individual learning plans.
