When the applause finally subsides, Dr. Jane Foley, senior vice president of the Milken Educator Awards, asks recipient Kevin Tobe why he puts so much emphasis on incorporating technology into his math classes. "Technology provides students with a tremendous opportunity," he says. "It opens a lot of doors that weren't available to students five or even 10 years ago. It's been a tremendous way to help them with their math." Tobe uses applications such as GeoGebra and Desmos in his lessons and has helped other teachers incorporate Blackboard, Moodle, Google Apps and other technology into their classes. Michigan Superintendent of Education Brian J. Whiston, left, looks on during the informal Q&A.
