Biographical Information

Kimberly Grempler is a Title I reading specialist and OASIS coordinator at Bayless Elementary School in St. Louis. Previously a first-grade teacher at the school, Grempler distinguished herself by co-creating a free reading program to help students develop their literacy skills during the summer. During the school year, her students further developed reading and math skills through the use of computers, and received additional reading assistance from senior volunteers recruited through the local OASIS program. Grempler's students also benefited from her interdisciplinary teaching style, which made them active participants in the learning process. She helped develop and implement districtwide curricula and created parental involvement programs such as "Mother's Day Tea" and "Time for Dads." During Grempler's tenure, elementary test scores in her district exceeded state averages for the first time.
