Biographical Information

Currently as a resource person and reviewer for career academies, Jean Miyahira serves on the board of directors for HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union and the National Career Academy Coalition. The emphasis of her work with the Coalition is strategic planning as well as business and education partnership. Mrs. Miyahira was formerly the director of the Academy of Finance, the Academy of Travel and Tourism, and the Business and Computer Technology Learning Center at Waipahu High School. While at Waipahu, Mrs. Miyahira implemented a number of innovative programs including a telecommunications course designed to meet the high-tech needs of industry, a Travel Industry Practicum Program, an Entrepreneurship Program, and a practicum for teachers with travel-related businesses. Known for utilizing the talents of her students, Mrs. Miyahira was acknowledged for providing business education programs to students from non-English speaking families.


Personal Message

As a Board member and reviewer for the National Career Academy Coalition, a non-profit organization, I have presented at national conferences on school reform and partnerships for business and education partnerships. I am also coordinating Hawai‘i's career academies which are affiliated with the National Academy Foundation in developing statewide standards utlizing project-based learning techniques. Result of the project will be the production of a CD-ROM, "Hidden Treasures, Hawaiian Style."
