Under principal Jacklene Jones' instructional leadership, Bank Avenue Elementary School in New Iberia met its two-year academic growth target in a single year. With 19 years as a middle-school reading teacher under her belt, Ms. Jones made reading achievement a main concern at Bank Avenue Elementary School, incorporating Project Read strategies across the curriculum. She begins each year by introducing students to the school's character education curriculum and has created an extensive student and teacher incentive program to recognize and reward outstanding achievements. Her school was the first elementary school in the parish to be networked with instructional technology, and she provides her staff with ongoing professional development on using technology to enhance classroom instruction. Ms. Jones is a certified trainer for the Louisiana Teacher Assistance and Assessment Program.
