Pender Makin (ME '01) Becomes State Commissioner

Pender Makin (ME '01) has been tapped to lead Maine's Department of Education by Governor Janet Mills, who became the state's first woman governor in January 2019. Most recently, Makin served as assistant superintendent in Brunswick. She won the Milken Award as a middle school teacher in Westbrook and was named Maine's Principal of the Year in 2013-14.
