Jamie Karaffa (ME '21) Named Maine Junior Division 2025 National History Day Teacher of the Year

Jamie Karaffa (ME '21), Bruce M. Whittier Middle School social studies teacher, was selected as the Maine Junior Division 2025 NHD Teacher of the Year. The state teacher of the year distinction is given to just one middle school and one high school educator from each affiliate. She’s among 71 outstanding teachers nationwide recognized for their innovative use of primary sources, active‐learning strategies, and commitment to fostering students’ historical thinking. In addition to celebrating outstanding history scholarship and innovative classroom instruction, the 2025 Teachers of the Year, to be honored at a national ceremony held June 12, will receive a $5,000 cash prize.
