Barbara LaVon Black (WV ’08) was honored with a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) for 2013.

Of the 102 teachers honored this year by President Obama for their contributions in math and science education, two were Milken Educators. Barbara and Elizabeth Pitzer (OH '98) will be invited to Washington, DC, for the awards ceremony and meetings with Congress and the Administration. They will also each receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation.

“These teachers are inspiring today’s young students to become the next generation of American scientists, mathematicians, and innovators,” President Obama said. “Through their passion and dedication, and by sharing their excitement about science, technology, engineering, and math, they are helping us build a promising future for all our children.”
