Lucy Quinby (CA ’93) passed away on September 28, 2025, in Eureka, California, at 83 years old. A dedicated educator, Lucy spent 35 years teaching Spanish at Eureka Senior High School, where she once studied herself. As head of the foreign language department, she championed the use of technology to enhance learning and foster inclusion. Her love for language began in childhood, living in Panama, Argentina, and Colombia while her father served in the U.S. Army.

In retirement, Lucy continued to nurture education and the arts through her service on the Humboldt Arts Council Board of Directors, organizing dozens of author visits for local schools. Predeceased by her husband of 56 years, she is survived by her siblings, extended family, and many lifelong friends. Remembered for her warmth, dedication, and desire to live life to the fullest, Lucy Quinby’s legacy endures in the community and students she so deeply inspired.
