Outstanding Southern California Teachers To Accept $25,000
April 22, 2007
| WHAT: | Three southern California teachers will accept $25,000 Milken National Educator Awards in Beverly Hills on April 22 at 7:30 p.m. Canyon Country's Kim Tredick, Twentynine Palms's Jennifer Smith and San Ysidro's Elva De Baca will join only 79 educators from across the country to receive this honor at a black-tie gala Teacher Magazine calls the "Oscars of Teaching." Leaders and legends in a variety of fields—including Hollywood actor/director Robert Townsend and football hero Rosey Grier—will help education reform pioneer and philanthropist Lowell Milken treat these teachers like the true "stars" they are. By evening's end, all Milken Educators will take to the stage for a sendoff as the newest in the Milken Educator Network, a coalition of more than 2,200 educators nationwide who work to improve teacher quality and student achievement in their communities and beyond. The Milken Educator Awards is the nation's largest teacher recognition program, first presented in 1987 to attract and retain the best and brightest educators to the profession. Since then, the Foundation has given more than $56 million in Awards to exceptional K-12 educators across the nation. |
