With California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond by her side, it's Angelica Gunderson's turn to address the students, staff and guests who just witnessed her Milken Educator Award surprise. She tells the assembly that before college, she supported herself by cleaning houses. Education, she stresses, is the key to changing your life: "I am living proof that education opens doors."
