Tom Tusken has worked for the Duluth Public Schools for the past 23 years. During that time he has spent the majority of it as a social studies teacher at Denfeld High School. In addition to teaching, Tom has served as the 9th Grade BARR Coordinator, Dean of Students and Assistant Principal. He has led and contributed to numerous efforts at school wide improvement including implementation of Link Crew, the 9th Grade BARR, PBIS, the SOAR Academy for at risk freshmen, and the Freshman Seminar course. Currently Tom is coordinating the BARR (Building Assets Reducing Risks) Program for all 9th grade students and teaching Civics. He also leads the 10th Grade PLC, continues to coordinate Link Crew and is a PBIS Team member. An advocate of team teaching, Tusken has used hands-on and group activities, as well as passion and humor, to motivate those who find it difficult to attend school and complete routine assignments. At the same time, he provides challenging learning opportunities to those who are ready for more advanced work. In helping students make an important transition, Thomas Tusken has changed their lives.
