Love, learning, and leadership drive Sydney Newton in all that she does for the Taylor County School District. She began her career as a high school English teacher, supported the high school as a Curriculum Coordinator, and now serves as the district's Instructional Supervisor, Director of Federal Programs, and District Assessment Coordinator. These platforms give Newton the opportunity to support educators and students across her district through instructional leadership and professional learning. She further ensures the district remains up to date on current statutes and recommendations for best practice and compliance.

Newton was a high school English Teacher for the first decade of her career. In her ELA class, Newton implemented innovative AI approaches for students to “chat” with William Shakespeare while studying his play, “Julius Caesar”. Using the Socratic method for class debates stimulates engagement, higher-order thinking, and ownership of learning. In her tenure, she taught English II, English IV, and AP Language and Composition.

Later in her career, Newton served as the high school's Curriculum Coordinator and district's EL Coordinator where she was able to support student and staff needs. Often the first face to greet students off of the bus and one of the lasts to say goodbye, she spent much of her time mentoring students/staff, sponsoring clubs, and providing feedback on planning and instruction at Taylor County High School. Newton was responsible for helping to implement a new ELA curriculum, mentored new educators through a staff induction program, planned professional development opportunities, and coordinated the schools' NTI days, after school, and summer school programs.

As the English Language Learner Coordinator, Newton organized and coordinated district testing, managed the individual learning plans for ELL students, and collaborated with principals and partners to extend ELL services during orientations and family outreach nights. She made sure language needs were met by working with teachers and families and she continues to do so in her current role.

Newton earned her bachelor’s degree in secondary and middle grades education from Lindsey Wilson University in 2016. At nearby Campbellsville University, she completed dual master’s degrees—Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) in 2018 and P-12 school administration in 2022. She returned to Campbellsville University in the fall of 2026 to fulfill her requirements as a District Instructional Supervisor; she is projected to complete the program in the fall of 2027.
