Biographical Information

Stephen Rocketto was a teacher at Ella T. Grasso Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical School in Groton where he taught physics, earth science and chemical science to ninth through twelfth grade students. With the support of a group he formed comprised of students, teachers, alumni and community members, Rocketto erected a weather satellite receiving station which currently provides hourly weather reports to a local radio station and which will be networked with other schools in Connecticut, Washington and Virginia. After retiring from Grasso Tech, Rocketto taught physics at Montville High School until retiring in 2007. He then assumed the volunteer position of director of aerospace education for the Connecticut Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. Rocketto's mission as an educator is to pass on the values and knowledge which he received from his family, teachers and mentors. "Then," he says, "I hope I will have prepared my charges to act rationally and face their futures with the abilities to lead a happy life and make their own contributions to society."
