Mark Winzler is currently the interim Superintendent of Schools in Suffield, CT. This is his 11th time serving in this capacity since retirement. He served previously in this role in Granby, Berlin, Watertown, Rocky Hill, East Hampton (twice), Columbia, Plymouth, Hebron and Torrington. Prior to retirement, Winzler served as Superintendent for the Bolton Public Schools, a position he had held since 2007. Winzler served as assistant superintendent of human resources for the Windsor Public Schools in Windsor and as assistant superintendent for the Branford Public Schools. When he was principal of Edwin O. Smith High School in Storrs, Winzler's innovations included Senior Awards Night, a schoolwide banquet designed to expand the process of rewarding excellence by recognizing the achievements of all students, including those with special needs, for both academic and extracurricular pursuits. Winzler also introduced strategic planning at Smith, enlisting parents and other community members to define the school's mission, establish goals, and implement strategies for meeting those goals. Winzler established a partnership with the University of Connecticut, providing Smith's teachers with professional development opportunities and students with a CD-ROM network and Internet connections.
