Biographical Information

At Helen W. Grant Elementary School in New Haven, science and math teacher Margaret Andrews encourages her fourth graders' love of learning through a theme-based curriculum that uses hands-on activities to spark creative thinking. She frequently engages her students in academic competitions involving science and art and takes them to the Eli Whitney Museum where she works as an instructor during the summer. Ms. Andrews strengthens and improves the teaching profession through her work as a seminar leader with BEST (Beginning Educator Support Training) and as an adjunct math and science instructor at Sacred Heart University. A frequent presenter at conferences, she chairs the school's curriculum committee, as well as its science department and Teacher Council.
