Biographical Information

Jim Schmitt's educator experience began with the Eau Claire Area School District (WI) teaching Chemistry and English Language Learners Science courses. Physics and Engineering courses followed. Three areas have always been at the cornerstone of Jim's practice: clearly identifying learning targets for students, accurately assessing those learning targets, and focusing on the whole child throughout the learning process. After 16 years in the classroom Jim carried this passion to program development for the district, serving 5.5 years as its Secondary Curriculum Coordinator and 3.5 years as the district’s Director of Assessment and Technology. His most recent challenge is serving as the district's Executive Director of Teaching & Learning.

Personal Message

The education profession is full of diverse interests. This has led to politicizing a field that should instead focus its efforts on practices and policies that will lead our students to a competitive advantage in the global economy. Our efforts should center on effectively improving instruction and assessment at the smallest unit of our organization: the classroom.
