After 45.5 years in education, Donnan Stoicovy retired with 5 years as an elementary teacher and 38.5 years of experience as both an elementary and middle school principal. Stoicovy has also worked as an independent school educator as the Head of School at a small Quaker School for 3 years. Then she was the Interim Executive Director of ClearWater Conservancy for 7.5 months while helping to search for an Executive Director. She is currently the President of the Board of Directors for ClearWater Conservancy.
Donnan continues to be involved in Environmental Education as a Chair of the Advisory Council for Environmental Education in PA, President of the ClearWater Conservancy Board, Centre Outdoors Comittee, Chair of the Millbrook Marsh Advisory Council and Chair of the PA Project Learning Tree Steering Committee and COG's Community Stewardship Network. During her time as a school leader, Stoicovy helped to lead two schools to receive the U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School recognition. Four of her Park Forest Elementart students received the Presidental Award for Environmental Education.
She received the Keystone Award from the Pennsylvania Association of Environmental Educators and the Educator of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Environmental Council.
In retirement, Donnan became a Pennsylvania Master Naturalist. Her goal was to continue to connect with students and adults by being a volunteer naturalist at some of the local environmental education sites - Millbrook Marsh, Shaver’s Creek, ClearWater Conservancy and the Arboretum at Penn State. She recently received an Pennsylvania Master Naturalist award for achieving 2,500 hours of volunteering over a three year period. As for civic engagement, Stoicovy is proud of her work with the Kettering Foundation/National Issues Forum to encourage deliberation in the classroom. She has done some writing in that area and participated in webinars. She also engages with other partners in the PA Department of Education's Advisory Council for Environmental Education as their Chair. She is also Chair of the PA Steering Committee for Project Learning Tree.
