Biographical Information

Richard "Dick" Durost is the former executive director of the Maine Principals' Association having served in that position for 18 years, retiring in June of 2019.  Prior to this, he taught math and physics for 14 years, was principal at Easton High School and Presque Isle High School, and was superintendent of the Easton School Department. While Durost was at Presque Isle, the school received national attention for single-sex math classes, which raised math achievement scores for girls. Since then, Durost has served as president of the board of directors for the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), the national organization that oversees high school athletics and activities. He has served on the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) state executive directors' advisory council and WAS chair of the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) state executive directors. He presently serves on the Board of Directors of the Maine Arts Academy, a public charter school.
