Biographical Information

Third-grade teacher Christina M. Hunter inspires students to be the best they can be at Sara Collins Elementary School in Greenville. She constantly seeks real-life situations to teach skills and content, and immerses her students in higher order thinking processes. In Mrs. Hunter's classroom, communication is essential to the total learning process. A National Board Certified teacher, Mrs. Hunter's motto is "Keep Your Eye on the Child." Clearly, she lives by those words, as Mrs. Hunter's inquiry approach to teaching has led her students to meet or exceed all grade level standards. Mrs. Hunter serves as chairman of the local teacher forum leadership council, which has grown to include an interactive link from the district's Web site to communicate with all teachers. She was a 2002-03 Greenville Teacher of the Year and was named Washington Mutual Leadership Fellow. Before becoming a teacher, Mrs. Hunter worked as a caseworker for the Department of Social Services.
