Math teacher Beth (Miller) Manuel provides rich educational opportunities for her at-risk students in grades three through eight at Dorseyville Elementary School in White Castle. As a teacher in the state's DEEP (Developing Educational Excellence and Proficiency) into Mathematics program, Mrs. (Miller) Manuel inspires learning by tying math concepts to her students' life experiences while at the same time aligning her curriculum with parish standards. Her approach has resulted in impressive gains in student achievement. Mrs. (Miller) Manuel is also a teacher of teachers, conducting frequent inservices and workshops for teachers not only in the parish, but at local, state and national levels as well. A member of the Governor's Blue Ribbon Commission, Mrs. (Miller) Manuel is a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
