Biographical Information

Following my retirement from my school administration positions in 2005, I have farmed with two brothers in Divide County, North Dakota.  I also did "Title" searches in area courthouses for oil companies from 2005 to 2015.  Arthur Schilke was the principal of Divide County High School in Crosby, a position that he has held since 2003. Previously, Schilke was principal for more than 20 years of Beulah Elementary School in Beulah. Schilke's many innovations included "Walking for Fitness," which encouraged students to walk an adjoining track before school and at noon on Fridays with family members, to promote physical fitness and morale. Students set goals for the number of laps walked and were awarded for achieving their goals. Schilke also created an Enrichment Program for fourth graders, whereby students with high test scores in particular areas were selected for special training in those subjects "to enrich student interest and knowledge." Schilke championed learning situations that rely on group work, and stressed the importance of parental involvement in their children's education, inspiring 40 percent of parents to volunteer their services to the school annually. Schilke also integrated technology into Beulah's curriculum, establishing the school's first computer lab.
