Biographical Information

Principal Angela Johnson has turned the education of students into a community effort. By establishing strong relationships with parents, teachers and community members, Ms. Johnson has made them active participants in the school's decision-making process. At the same time, she has collaborated with parents, teachers, students, district administrators and community members to develop a four-year plan for the school. The result has been a dramatic improvement in student achievement. The reforms that Ms. Johnson has implemented at Chambers have been numerous. She worked with staff to align the curriculum and place more students in college-based enrichment programs; provided teachers with resources for ongoing professional development; created a Parent Resource Center within the school to encourage parental involvement; acquired technology and software to provide support for teachers and students; organized a chapter of the National Junior Honor Society to inspire student achievement; and developed a computer-based lab for students with dyslexia and other reading challenges. Last fall, parents and community members joined students and teachers in the Chambers Middle School gym for a celebration of the school's academic success. Thanks to Angela Johnson's leadership, there was much to celebrate.
